Getting You Back On Track After Surgery

It is likely that after an operation, your surgeon will prescribe physiotherapy to regain your strength, flexibility and function. When a joint or structure has required surgical intervention, it will likely also need some form of post-operative rehabilitation and support to get you moving again. Back, neck, knee, hip, shoulder, foot, wrist and hand surgery all require different approaches and there is no specific technique that will suit all conditions.

Some common surgeries that require post-operative physiotherapy include:

  • Spinal injuries from sport or work
  • Hip replacements, repairs and fractures
  • Knee replacements, ACL and ligament reconstruction, arthroscope and meniscal repairs
  • Calf and Achilles tendon damage and repair
  • Ankle reconstruction, ligament repairs and fractures
  • Shoulder reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and fractures
  • Elbow fractures, Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow
  • Wrist and hand fractures, Carpal Tunnel release and tendon repairs.

Our physiotherapist will take the time to analyse and understand your particular situation and work with you to determine where you want to get to in terms of your rehabilitation. If you need assistance to move, we will complete an assessment for mobility aids such as crutches, walking sticks, etc. We will develop an exercise protocol that addresses the specific operation and consider your body's limitations and ability to exercise. We will then formalise a process that utilises the appropriate equipment and techniques to help you see improvement. This will also include an effective exercise regime that you can take home.
